This March Awen has the following wines for the Awen Guild:
The 2020 Malbec
New Release!
2020 – Rogue Valley, AVA
100% Malbec
Alcohol 14.2%
Vineyard – Daisy Creek – Rogue Valley
Our 2020 Malbec grows in Daisy Creek Vineyards located in the western hills reaches of the Rogue Valley AVA. The elevation is slightly higher than the Rogue Valley which lends a nice diurnal shift to the growing day preserving acids in the grapes. We find this to be a near perfect site for growing Malbec in the style we prefer.
Winemaking
We harvest the grapes in the predawn hours and get it to the winery before the heat of the day. The grapes are crushed and destemmed leaving 1/3 whole clusters in the fermentation vessel. After a 24 hour cold soak the must is inoculated with BDX yeast. After fermentation is complete, we extend the maceration until the flavor and mouthfeel desired is achieved. The wine is then pressed and barreled down into French oak barrels for the long rest of 2-4 years.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of Marion berries, blueberries, plum cocoa, espresso and red licorice followed by Dark Berry pie flavors, fresh red fruit notes and lingering notes of earthiness. The balanced mouthfeel is bright and friendly with a soft velvet finish.

The 2020 Tempranillo
New Release!
2020 Tempranillo – Rogue Valley, AVA
100% Tempranillo
Alcohol 14.5%
Vineyard - Coventina Vineyards
Our 2020 Tempranillo is sourced from Coventina Vineyards, home of the very best sustainably grown Tempranillo in the state of Oregon (In our opinion). This Site is located near Merlin Oregon just north of Grants Pass. The higher elevation and excellent exposure to sunlight make this site and amzing place to grow Tempranillo. On a side note, Coventina is the Celtic Goddess of Inspiration, which is nicely suited to our namesake "Awen".
Wine Making
The grapes are crushed and destemmed leaving 1/3 whole clusters in the fermentation vessel. We add back a portion of the brown stems to the must for additional complexity in the finished wines. After a 48 hour cold soak the must is inoculated with D254 yeast. Once fermentation is complete, we extend the maceration for 20-50 days until the flavor and mouthfeel desired is achieved. The wine is then pressed and barreled down into French oak barrels for the long rest of 3-4 years.
Tasting Notes
Notes of eucalyptus, baking spices and vanilla soaked caramelized brown sugar followed by mature flavors of dried red fruits and cocoa make this wine a pleasure to savor. The Celtic gods have blessed this wine with the balance and body only achieved by invoking the Awen.

The 2020 Cabernet Franc
2020 Cabernet Franc
100% Cabernet Franc
Alcohol 13.9%
We sourced our 2020 Cabernet Franc from Quail Run Vineyards’ Sundown Vineyard, located in the western Rogue Valley AVA. Layered aromas of strawberry, raspberry, roasted jalapeño, and herbs lead to deep flavors of black cherry, fresh red plums and baking spices. This full bodied wine is bright yet smooth on the palate with just enough tannic grip to excite your taste buds. The lingering finish is reminiscent of the long summer dusk in southern Oregon, when the sky is full of so many colors it is hard to tell where one begins and another ends.
